My sincerest gratitude for your visit to my page today. I'm Terrill Jenkins, a self-taught guitarist, keyboardist, arranger, producer, singer-songwriter, currently residing in Austin, TX. I was born in Jacksonville, FL to Charles and Sharon Jenkins and was raised to be an independent thinker, globally minded and always looking for an opportunity to uplift others wherever, whenever and however. Music has afforded me the platform to do just that. Now if you're looking for the most original cutting edge artist on the scene today, then keep looking. I'm just an artist determined and committed to leaving this world better than I found it. "Distressed Soul" is what I call my sound. I write about your life, my life and all those things we don't like to talk about. Music intentionally designed to get up under your sensibilities and nudge you out of your comfort zones. I often say I write mature music for mature listeners. With so much going on in our Covid-19 world, I want you to know with 100% certainty that I stand with anyone who understands that there is strength in unity and that there's only one race, the human race. No justice , no peace!! Growing up in a family of eleven, music has always played a major role in my life, beginning with singing and performing with my siblings in church as a child. My family, like yours, wasn't perfect, but we had each other and a whole lot of love, sometimes dysfunctional. My parents taught me to believe in myself and allowed me the freedom to dream and explore my imagination. As a child, I grew up listening to gospel, pop, country, soul, classical, hip hop, jazz, etc. Distressed soul is a fusion of many of them. "L8te Blumer", my 2020 re-release, bridges secular and inspirational themes of faith, hope, love, failure and uncertainty. On the other hand, "The Struggle" released in 2018 addresses life's more turbulent and troublesome themes of abuse, mental illness, brokenness and poverty. Let's face it, none of us are immune to life's struggles, for they defy race, social economic status, education and political affiliation. Prior to the Covid-19 pandemic and the 2020 global social awakening to systemic racism, I was writing and preparing to record an EP entitled "Road Less Traveled" to be released in the Fall of 2020, but just like you, my plans have been altered and my focus has shifted. The world is speaking out with every step taken and every call for reform. Time's up and it's past time for change. "Road Less Traveled" will now have a 2021 release date. My creative flow has shifted and I must respond and reflect the urgency and frequency of our times. "Unjustified" is the new EP I'm striving to complete prior to the end of 2020. I truly appreciate each and every one of you that continues to support my efforts. I'm an artist on the verge, so if you hadn't heard, now you know.
